According to the latest earthquakes data of AFAD and Kandilli Observatory, an earthquake of 7.7 magnitude occurred in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş at 04:17, while another 6.4 magnitude earthquake, the epicenter of which was in Gaziantep’s Nurdağı district, occurred at 04:26. According to the information on the website of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), the earthquake occurred at 4.17 am in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş. The 7.4 magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers.

The earthquake shook many provinces in the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia Region, Central Anatolia, and the Mediterranean Region.
The 7.7 to 6.5 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Kahramanmaraş and Gaziantep was also felt in the provinces of Trabzon, Rize, Ordu, Giresun and Gümüşhane in the Eastern Black Sea Region. It was reported that there was no negative situation in the region.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) announced that two earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.4 occurred in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş at 04:17, and two earthquakes with magnitudes of 6.4 and 6.5 occurred in Gaziantep.
While the buildings in many cities were destroyed due to the earthquake, the intensity of the earthquake was also felt in the Eastern Black Sea Region. Trabzon, Rize, Ordu, Giresun, and Gümüşhane provinces shook for about 1 minute in the region. At the time of the earthquake, when fearful moments were experienced, some citizens captured those moments with their cell phone cameras. The footage showed that the chandeliers at Ordu-Giresun Airport and in some houses were swaying.

Vice President Fuat Oktay made statements about the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Kahramanmaraş and affected 10 provinces. Oktay said, “We have 284 deaths, 2 thousand 23 injured, and 1710 destroyed buildings. We have a total of 2786 search and rescue teams in the field, this number is increasing every day.’ He said.
PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN: ALL RELEVANT UNITS ARE ON VISIBILITY
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated the following in his message due to the earthquake:
“I convey my best wishes to all our citizens who were affected by the earthquake that occurred in Kahramanmaraş and was felt in many parts of our country. All our relevant units are on alert under the coordination of AFAD.
Our search and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the areas affected by the earthquake. Our Ministry of Interior and Health, AFAD, Governorships, and all other institutions started their work rapidly.
We also coordinate the work initiated after the earthquake. We hope that we will overcome this disaster we are experiencing together as soon as possible and with the least damage, and we continue our work.”
