The developments of the Russia-Ukraine war, which shock people with the information coming every day, continue without slowing down. The war that has been going on since February of 2022, which we left behind, continues without slowing down. While Ukraine continued its resistance, strengthened with the support of tanks from the USA, England, and Germany, the news from England fell like a bomb in the press.
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson made a statement about Putin months later, saying that in a phone call, he made before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Putin threatened him with a missile attack. Speaking in the BBC documentary examining Putin’s interactions with world leaders, Johnson used the following statements;
‘At one point he threatened me and said cheerfully, ‘Boris; ‘I don’t want to hurt you, but with a missile, it’ll only take a minute,’ he said.
Prior to the war, Johnson had warned of tougher western sanctions if Russia invaded Ukraine and increased support for NATO even if Ukraine was not a member. Also, in the phone call Boris Johnson mentioned, the Russian leader said to himself, “Boris, you are saying that Ukraine will not join NATO anytime soon… What is it soon? You know this very well,” he said.
Nine days after this speech, on February 11, Defense Minister Ben Wallace flew to Moscow to meet with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Shoigu. The BBC documentary describes how Wallace left with assurances that Russia would not invade Ukraine, but that both sides knew it was a lie.
Ben Wallace described it as ‘showdown and bullying’ and said it meant;
‘I will lie to you, you know I am lying and I know you know I am lying and I will lie to you anyway.’
Wallace said this lie confirms that Russia will invade Ukraine.
Leaving the meeting, he noted that Russia’s Chief of General Staff, General Valery Gerasimov, told him “we will never be humiliated again”.
